Healthy Snacks

At Ashworth Nursery School we enjoy a range of healthy snacks.  Examples include:

Snack

  • Milk and water for all drinks
  • Fruits and vegetables e.g. apples, bananas, pears, oranges, melon, strawberries, pineapple, peaches, nectarines, plums kiwis, avocado, carrots, cucumber, celery, peas, potatoes etc.
  • Wholemeal toast and crumpets
  • Bread sticks, pita or chapattis and hummus/cheese/cucumber
  • Cheese and crackers
  • Lower-sugar fromage frais

Snack time is an opportunity to develop social skills around mealtimes.

School fund is £2 for each session your child attends, which can be paid to the school office. This pays for the daily snack for the children and contributes to extra treats such as

  • Christmas presents
  • Easter Eggs
  • Baking
  • Class parties and celebrating birthdays
  • Visits from outside companies

The Nursery receives no Government subsidies towards snack provision and we are very grateful for these weekly contributions and hope you feel you get good value for money with the additional experiences we provide for your child.

Healthy Schools

We are committed to support our families in achieving the very best outcomes for healthy lifestyles.

We follow ‘Smile4life’ and as such provide foods during snack-time which will promote healthy bodies and teeth. We respectfully request that children do not bring sweets, chocolate or chewing gum to school in their packed lunches.

Ashworth Nursery has a long standing tradition of celebrating every child’s birthday by baking a cake, singing ‘Happy Birthday’ and sharing the cake. We are keen to continue to teach every child the skills of baking and the importance of sharing a celebration. We are pleased to inform you that this tradition will continue but the cake will be sent home for family members to share.

We are aware that in the past, parents/carers have very kindly brought in sweets, chocolates or cake to celebrate their child’s birthday. We ask all parents/carers to support us and refrain from sending these items in to school.
