Gillian Tattersall - Chair of Governors
It has been a pleasure and a privilege to have worked for 20 years as a qualified primary teacher specialising in the education of children with special educational needs and disabilities. Seventeen of those years have been spent serving communities in Blackburn with Darwen as a teacher and as a school governor. I have recently completed a Masters degree in Children’s language impairments and now work as an advisory teacher for children with speech, language and communication difficulties in the borough’s primary and secondary schools. It is also a privilege to be part of the governing body of Ashworth Nursery School and to be able to support the work of an outstanding school. No pecuniary or registered interests recorded.
Hilda Harries - Headteacher - Staff Governor
As Headteacher, I have been a Governor since September 2011. My teaching career started as an Infant Teacher. Since then, I have had many roles; including SENCo, Assistant Headteacher and Advisory Teacher. Prior to joining Ashworth Nursery, I co-ordinated Early Support for the Local Authority and was an Advisory Teacher for children with complex needs. Working with young children brings many rewards, seeing them develop into independent, happy and caring individuals makes the job worthwhile.
Personally, I have many interests; including spending quality time with my family and friends. I love gardening, baking and enjoy walking in the countryside. No pecuniary or registered interests recorded
Beverley O'Hara - Vice Chair of Governors
I have been a Governor at Ashworth Nursery School for several years now. I currently work for Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council, Social Services and my background is Operational Management and Human Resources. No registered interests recorded.
Hajra Khalid - Co-opted Governor
As a Governor I want to support both the Nursery and parents in further developing the role of the Nursery within the community. I feel privileged to be part of such a committed team of staff at Ashworth and together we want to ensure the children have the best start in life and in education. No pecuniary or registered interests recorded.
Isma Sajid - Parent Governor
This is my sixth year as a Parent Governor. I have a Diploma in Childcare and Education. I have children with disabilities and due to their disabilities I have an understanding and passion to be a voice for the parent/carers. In my spare time I volunteer and attend meetings to help and support families who have children with disabilities. I run a carers group on a weekly basis, this helps parents/carers to talk to each other about their caring role and go out to regular day trips.
I'm part of BwD Parents in Partnership where we hold coffee mornings, forums and Disabiity Information Days for parent/carers to come and meet others who are in a similar situation to them.
No pecuniary or registered interests recorded.
Annika Shahid - Co-opted Governor
I am a Parent Governor for Ashworth Nursery I have been working with children with SEN for over 12 years. I currently work for SEND SS as a specialist SSA. No pecuniary or registered interests recorded.
Louise Garner - Co-opted Governor
I have worked for the Local Authority for over 20 years. My background is SEN, previously I worked at Broadlands Special School. I acquired HLTA qualification and now work with SEND SS. My specialism is Physical Disabilities providing schools with assessment, advice and training. No pecuniary or registered interests recorded.
Julie Edwards - Staff Governor
I have worked in five schools in the Blackburn area and have worked with children from Nursery to Year 7. I have also experience of working with an individual who has SEN needs. No pecuniary or registered interests recorded.
